The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark
1st class enjoyed reading the novel and writing their own chapter for the book. Can you spot our special guest Owlie?
Maths - Measures- Weight
1st class had great fun studying the topic of Weight. They organised the food items according to weight, but without measuring or reading the weight on the packets! (Thanks to Mrs. Gallagher and her magic stickers!) There was also a 30 second dash where each pair had to pick 2 items that they thought weighed the same!

Observing pumpkins decomposing
After Halloween, first class decided to watch some pumpkins decomposing. They put pumpkin 1 outside the classroom, pumpkin 2 inside the classroom and pumpkin 3 in the outdoor composter. Here are some photos to show you what they observed.
Pumpkin 1 turned to slush after this and was put into the school composter.
Pumpkin 2 joined his friends in the school composter soon after this photo was taken!
100 dojo points
Well done to all in first class for reaching an amazing 100 dojo points. The children have been working and playing very hard and they all received a fabulous Brú na Bóinne jigsaw for their efforts.
Classroom Composter
First class are going to observe their composter over the next few weeks to see what happens. They will record their findings in their SESE copies.

1st class planted chestnut trees with help from their friends in 4th.

First class dojo points
The pupils in first class can earn dojo points for many reasons -good listening, group work, helping others, neat writing, standing properly in líne, taking part, trying their best and working hard! When they reach 35 points, they get a prize. When they reach 70, they get a bonus 5 points and their photo will be posted here! When they get to 100, they will get a written homework pass and a mention at the next assembly. Keep up the great work Rang a hAon!

Aistear March & April
Our Aistear theme was the restaurant/bakery.
We made cakes, Gingerbread men, favourite foods from playdough.
We role played bakers/chefs, customers, shop/bakery assistants.
We designed new cakes, made some Mothers day cards and designed our own restaurant menus.
We created restaurants and bakeries from Lego and blocks.
Maths
We have been using the King of Maths app during our Ready, Set, Go Maths Stations
Science
We took part in a spring hunt in the school garden.
We have planted tomato, cress and peas as part of the Big Grow project.
Aistear January & February
Our Aistear theme was TV/film/weather.
We made TV studios/cameras/weather equipment from Lego.
We role played weather forecasters giving weather reports on TV, famers, gardeners, drivers etc listening to the weather forecast and changing their plans.
We drew comic strips of our favourite TV shows and created our own shows. We also wrote a film review.
In Art We created umbrellas from scrap materials, we also made a rainbow with raindrops and clouds.
